For the 2025â26 academic year, Young Dance is seeking 5 to 7 dedicated Teaching Artists who will provide (mostly) Creative Movement residencies to Minneapolis PreK-5 grade students.
Teaching Artists will work with Young Dance Artistic Director Anat Shinar, Community Partnerships Manager Cheng Xiong, MPS Administrators and Educators, and each other to develop curriculum and lesson plans.
Ideal candidates will:
- Feel comfortable working with all elementary ages as young as 4 years old and up to 13 years old.
- Be warm and inviting, cultivating environments where students feel seen, comfortable, welcomed, and safe.
- Have experience working with people of all abilities, including those with physical, cognitive, developmental, and other disabilities.
- Be available for consecutive days, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am-4:00 pm throughout the academic year.
- Have a background of teaching Creative Movement, with preference (but not required) for those who also teach at least one other style, such as Musical Theater or Hip Hop.
- Have experience creating age and developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
- Work well with others, including Administrators, Kâ12 Educators, and other Teaching Artists.
- Be clear and quick communicators.
- Be comfortable problem-solving quickly and effectively, be able to pivot in real time, stay calm in challenging situations, and ask for support when they need it.
Timeline:
Interviews will begin the week of September 22.
Planning meetings will start the week of September 29.
Teaching Assignments may begin as early as October 6.
Compensation:
Curriculum and lesson-planning meetings: $25/hour
Organization-wide meetings: $16/hour
Planning meetings with partner schools: $25/meeting (approx. 30-minute meeting)
Teaching rate: $100/class (class time ranges from 30â90 minutes)
Other events will be compensated and communicated on a case-by-case basis
Teaching Artists can expect 200 to 700 hours through mid-June, with total compensation ranging from $20,000 to $75,000.
