This unique, eight-week online Feldenkrais® series with Sarah Baumert will explore how we can interrupt our habitual patterns involving unnecessary tension, overuse, and discomfort in the neck and shoulders. These lessons will help to free your neck and shoulders from Zoom fatigue, the action of looking forward and down, anxiety, tension, and stiffness that comes with modern life. Engage with a wider view of the world by releasing emotional and physical tension and move towards feeling more calm and balanced, with more options for movement, action, and pleasure. You will learn novel ways to reduce pain and tension, and find ways towards feelings of comfort in the shoulders and neck.

In Awareness Through Movement, we explore how we can move with the smallest amount of effort. The smallest amount of effort or exertion will facilitate the maximum amount of sensory differentiation and thus make information available for new learning.

Contact Sarah directly for scholarship options.

Local jazz-heads Karla Grotting and Erinn Liebhard are BACK AT IT with Friday Morning Jazz this coming Friday, January 8!

Join Karla Grotting this week for a music-based, history-infused hour of wrestling with and finding joy in jazz dance. As this form is rooted in African diasporic movement ideas, and because we believe dancing helps us feel our most human, we lean into this beautiful, resilient and powerful art in seeking ways to promote active anti-racism within our work. Drop-in students of all levels are welcomed to attend this class, which skews toward an intermediate to advanced level.

To register, visit at least ten minutes in advance of class.

Come groove with us!

Stories are among our most potent tools. We need to unearth old stories that live in a place and begin to create new ones. We are story makers, not just storytellers. All stories are connected, new ones woven from the threads of the old. —Paraphrased from Robin Wall Kimmerer

Studio Stories' newest season commences this Thursday, with weekly episodes airing at noon. To kick off the third season, we invited Taja Will into the (digital) studio to reminisce on their history and connection to the Twin Cities.

Taja Will (pronouns Taja/they) is a queer, Latinx (Chilean) adoptee, performer, choreographer, somatic therapist and Healing Justice practitioner based in the Twin Cities (MN), on the stolen and occupied Dakota lands of Wahpekute and Anishinabewaki. Taja’s approach integrates improvisation, somatic modalities, text, and vocals in contemporary performance.
