Wonderland is a theatrical dance production that aims to de-stigmatize mental health issues. Set in a psychiatric hospital, characters from Alice in Wonderland face challenges, explore what “normal” means, and share an uplifting story of empathy, acceptance, and friendship in the face of mental illness. The story is told using Collide’s signature blend of high-energy dance set to a pop-rock soundtrack.
Originally created in the spring of 2021, Wonderland was developed with the help of mental health professionals. It was enthusiastically received by critics (“spectacular and striking,” said TwinCitiesArts.com) and audiences. “I had no idea how much my family needed your show,” said one patron. Another patron, clinical social worker Jeannine Myrvik, said, “When I saw Wonderland my first thought was, this performance HAS to be in schools.” Based on this feedback, Collide developed a condensed version of the show aimed specifically at children.
This special family adaptation of our hit show about mental health has lots of fun components for kids!
● The Mad Hatter will lead children in theater games to start the show.
● Kids will learn a dance combination that they will be invited to dance with the cast at the
end of the show.
● Families can get photos with the characters.
All while providing a positive message about mental health and empathy!
Created by Collide Artistic Director Regina Peluso, the production features some of the Twin Cities’ top dance theater talents, including original cast members Renee Guittar, Patrick Jeffrey, and Regina Peluso, along with Nathan Huberty and Noah Coon. With voiceover by Ryan Colbert and music mixing by Andrew Hill.
