In this work, set in the 1930’s in the wake of an era of deep-seated segregation and economic depression in the US, Dr. Gaynell Sherrod’s TWINE! explores the ways in which poor people created group identity, a sense of belonging, cultural validation and autonomy through the transformative action of embodied practices.
