eMartin Dance’s newest work Blood of the Earth is steeped in the textures of the Southern United States as experienced by the choreographer, Erika Martin in childhood. Inspired in part by the work of NC based visual artist Thomas Sayer’s work White Gold the stage opens on it’s likeness, and the dancers emerge from a field of reclined bodies with movement developed in dialog with Sayre. This evening length work unfolds in three distinct sections defined by the characteristics of mud, water, and finally blood.
