Minnesota Opera is engaging in a two-week residency with choreographer and dancer Akram Khan. This residency is an investigation into the creation of a new type of opera, one that explores the intersections between opera, dance, and devised theater. Akram will be joined by long time Akram Khan Company Rehearsal Director, Mavin Khoo, and composer Aditya Prakash.
Minnesota Opera is seeking 5 dancers to collaborate with our 5 Resident Artist singers as we collaborate with Akram to discover the roots of a new work through and for voice and movement. Dancers should have a minimum of 4 years professional experience, with a combination of foundational classical technique and contemporary floor work, be open to improvisational ideation and physical response, and be willing to bring forth creative input throughout the residency.
Dates for the residency are October 25 – November 5, 2021 (details below), with all rehearsals taking place at the Minnesota Opera Center rehearsal spaces in the North Loop, Minneapolis. The residency will culminate in a discussion and sharing of the process on November 5, to be recorded, possibly streamed, and utilized for grant and funding purposes.
Apologies for the late notice as we worked to get visa approval for those coming from the U.K.
