DanceMN UPDATE

Reminder that a limit of 250 words is allowed to use for your notices in the newsletter.  We believe that 250 words is about the right amount of words to let the newsletter reader know - What, When, Where, Why, Who and a little bit more. Most of the longer notices that we have received in the past have included bio information. If you would like the newsletter reader to have more information about you and your event- steer them to your website, Facebook event page or a phone number. The closer they get to you, the more likely they will get to your event. Honestly the most effective notices are short and sweet. So keep those notices coming!

DanceMN.org is an artist-driven/artist-supporting organization. We have expanded the reach of the newsletter by launching a website dedicated to Twin Cities dance events. In addition to posting dance-related submissions, in the future the website will feature interviews with Twin Cities dance community members, links to dance resources, and may eventually allow Minnesota dance community makers, movers and fans to create their own profiles. We’re excited to provide more ways for exchange and encourage you to interact with the website as it evolves.

Your support makes this possible. You can still donate before the end of the year at www.dance.mn.org.

Thank you,
Laurie

2. CADE HOLMSETH DANCE IS BACK WITH “JUST ONE MORE: A STORY OF AFFLUENZA”

Cade Holmseth Dance will be presenting a theater and dance fusion performance at Intermedia Arts January 19-22 with performers Brian Evans, Kari Mosel, Sarah Jabar, and Jessica Ehlert

Everyone knows the value of a dollar, but few appreciate the value of a penny, and even fewer people register the effects of “the American Dream” on their lives and community.
“Just One More:  A Story of Affluenza” is a piece about the human experience with money and the platonic family.  Set in a hypothetical present with a set design conceived and created by Paul Herwig of Off-leash Area and 60,000 pennies, we follow the main character Bob through a rise and fall of a new job and a new family.  Watching his experiences unfurl, we are presented with questions like:  what is the current American dream, what really makes a person happy, why is this a stereotype in today’s world, and why are we predisposed to addiction and overreaching boundaries?  Join Bob and the rest of us.  Laugh.  Cry.  Think, does living the American Dream kill the American Dream?

Performance Dates:
Thursday, January 19, 7:30 pm
Friday, January 20, 7:30 pm reception and talkback to follow
Saturday, January 21, 7:30 pm talkback to follow
Sunday, January 22, 4:00 pm

At Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Ave. South, Minneapolis, MN 55408.

Tickets $14 at the door, $12 in advance.

5. SUBBODY BUTOH- DANCE OF LIFE

8 weeks workshop with Kats D

Subbody Butoh Method was developed by Rhizome Lee, a Japanese Butoh practitioner. “Subbody” means subconscious body. In the subconscious realm, away from the boundary of ego and daily consciousness, our mind and body melt into oneness and create world that is completely different from daily world. Though various conditioning techniques, a Subbody Butoh practitioner creates movements through exploring the subconscious realm. For more information about Subbody Butoh Method, please go to: www.subbody.net

This workshop will focus on the essential aspects of Subbody Butoh:
· Quiet down the daily consciousness and listen to the subtle body signals.
· Go beyond our physical, psychological and social bounds in order to create movements that are novel and unique to the individual body.
· Develop Subbody movements through opening eight channels (body feeling, movement, visual, audio, emotion, relationship, world-self image and thinking).
· Explore movements through Hidden Body (Hidden Skin, Hidden Muscle, Hidden Joints, etc)
· Through the Life Resonance with other Subbodies, become Co-body.

This workshop requires no dance experience.  Anyone who would like to explore his or her hidden creative potentials is welcome!

When:  Thursday 6:00-9:00pm    January 5, 12, 19   February 2, 9, 16, 23   March 1

Where:  Fallout Urban Art Center Studio Three, 2601 2nd Avenue South, Minneapolis

Tuition:  $200 ($180 when you register by December 15th)
