5. SUBBODY BUTOH- DANCE OF LIFE

8 week workshop with Kats D

Subbody Butoh Method was developed by Rhizome Lee, a Japanese Butoh practitioner. “Subbody” means subconscious body. In the subconscious realm, away from the boundary of ego and daily consciousness, our mind and body melt into oneness and create world that is completely different from daily world. For more information about Subbody Butoh Method, please go to: www.subbody.net

This workshop will focus on the essential aspects of Subbody Butoh:
· Quiet down the daily consciousness and listen to the subtle body signals.
· Go beyond our physical, psychological and social bounds in order to create movements that are novel and unique to the individual body.
· Develop Subbody movements through opening eight channels (body feeling, movement, visual, audio, emotion, relationship, world-self image and thinking).
· Explore movements through Hidden Body (Hidden Skin, Hidden Muscle, Hidden Joints, etc)
· Through the Life Resonance with other Subbodies, become Co-body.

This workshop requires no dance experience.  Anyone who would like to explore his or her hidden creative potentials is welcome!

When:  Thursday 6:00-9:00pm    January 5, 12, 19   February 2, 9, 16, 23   March 1

Where:  Fallout Urban Art Center Studio Three, 2601 2nd Avenue South, Minneapolis

6. SAVE THE DATE: MN DANCE EDUCATION SUMMIT ON FEBRUARY 11, 2012

Same word. Different definitions. How do we teach DANCE?

Join dance educators and teaching artists for the 2012 MN Dance Education Summit on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Perpich Center for Arts Education. This year’s Dance Summit examines the roots of dance and pedagogy across the different contexts in which dance is taught. How do we continue to teach what it is to dance in a product driven world? What exactly is it that happens - or needs to happen - in dance education?

If you’re interested in presenting a session or master class at the Summit, use the online Session Proposal Form to submit a proposal: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHo4U0dqT0tKVGM4N29VaFpNRzRqUlE6MQ.
Proposals are due by 4 PM on Thursday January 4.

For more information about the 2012 Dance Summit, contact Diane Aldis at diane.aldis@pcae.k12.mn.us or 763-591-2038.

7. MODERN DANCE FUNDAMENTALS AT ZENON

Think you’re too old? Too out of shape?  Too challenged in the coordination or rhythm departments? Have you got feet like yams at the ends of your ankles (I do)? Do you feel too heavy or too weak? Have you got a bad shoulder or a case of some chronic disease? Have you got a friend, neighbor, colleague, partner, accomplice or in-law who fits one of these categories and needs a new outlook? Encourage them OR YOURSELF to try Zenon’s “Fundamentals of Modern Dance” class. We have fun, we burn some calories, and we learn quite a lot about how dance really works.  Taught by John Munger, who has taught dance since 1972, and at Zenon since 1990. The first class meeting of the Winter Term is this coming Saturday, Jan 7, at 9:00am at Zenon. Only $12 per 60-minute class, with several opportunities for discounts.

AUDITIONS, JOBS and OPEN CALLS

15. TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS

We already have four choreographers who want to be part of the show, and we usually go with six, eight, or at most ten. Get on board if you want to be part of the next Rabbit Show, scheduled for Wed Feb 8 at Bryant Lake Bowl. The topic this time is “Tenderness.” This nuanced quality of relationship can apply to kitsch, sentiment, beauty, nobility and lots of more complicated things. It also applies to its current absence from social and political discourse. The flipside, the darkside, matters. You can be satirical, you can be sentimental, you can deliver a heartfelt social message, you can revile the curmudgeons, you can keep your clothes on or take them off, and you can do up to seven or eight uncensored minutes of dance in a cabaret setting. Are you new to the scene and don’t know what “The Rabbit Show” is? For that and FFI, please contact me. If you already think you’re interested, let me know and say “yes” or say “maybe …” . And Happy New Year !!

ADA Access Improvement Grants for Metro Arts Organizations are now available in the Twin Cities seven-county area. The focus of these grants, up to $15,000 each, is to help make arts programming, activities and facilities more accessible to people with disabilities.

Made possible by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, which voters approved in 2008, the grant program is administered by VSA Minnesota for the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC). Over the past two years $440,785 was awarded to 36 Twin Cities organizations. In 2012 approximately $180,000 is available to be awarded over two rounds, with application deadlines on February 17 and May 11, 2012. A series of information meetings will be announced shortly.

The project grants are not intended for one-time activities such as a sign language interpreter or a Braille program for one play, but to have the potential for significant or long-term impact in involving more people with disabilities as participants or patrons in arts programs.

Minnesota nonprofit arts organizations in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties are eligible if their annual budget is under $4,460,000.
